Steaming Logs: Ranking the 10 Worst Horror Movies of 2024

Welcome to Ranking Horror where we do nothing but rank horror movies. Today we are looking at the Steaming Logs: Ranking the 10 Worst Horror Movies of 2024.

This is a bit of an obvious topic, right? We have covered the best horror movies of 2024 and now it is time to look at the worst. Although 2024 was a great year for the genre, there was some absolute crap that made it to our screens. Some of which were actually pretty big releases. But which of these bad horror movies were the worst?

Well, we are going to take a look at some of the worst horror from 2024 right now. Keep in mind, I can only rate the movies I have actually watched and I am going to try to avoid the ultra low budget stuff that is far too low hanging fruit to pick on. So don’t be surprised if some major horror disappointments that you had the misfortune to watch don’t appear on the list. Let’s take a look.

RankMovie Title (Year)The Badness Factor
1Spin The Bottle (2024)Two Hour Borefest
2Nyctophobia (2024)Found Footage Failure
3Time Cut (2024)Nostalgia Nightmare
4The Mouse Trap (2024)Public Domain Trash
5Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 (2024)Hundred Acre Horrors
The Bottom of the Barrel: A summary of the top 5 worst horror movies of 2024.

10. AfrAId (2024) – Smart Home Stupidity

  • Director: Chris Weitz
  • Cast: John Cho, Katherine Waterston
  • Runtime: 84 minutes
  • IMDb: 5.0/10

Why it Ranked: I feel as though Chris WeitzAfrAId tries to warn you of how bad it will be by the way it stylises its title. The rogue AI horror thing is becoming very popular in recent years. What with the rise of Alexa, and all. The problem is, most of the movies that centre on the idea are ridiculously boring. AfrAId is no exception. It’s also poorly scripted, farcical, quite laughable, at times, and entirely lacking in suspense.

Synopsis: A family is selected to test a revolutionary new smart home device called AIA. As the AI learns the family’s behaviours and anticipates their needs, it begins to interject itself into their lives in increasingly terrifying and controlling ways.

Where to Watch: Available to rent or buy on Apple TV and Prime Video.

9. Imaginary (2024) – Teddy Bear Terror

  • Director: Jeff Wadlow
  • Cast: DeWanda Wise, Taegen Burns
  • Runtime: 104 minutes
  • IMDb: 4.7/10

Why it Ranked: I actually laughed when I first read the synopsis for this movie because it just sounds so utterly silly. The fact that the scares, here, are supposed to be manufactured through an adorable stuffed toy bear is even more laughable. The crazy thing is, as if the plot wasn’t ridiculous enough, Imaginary manages to find a whole new level of ridiculousness in the closing thirty minutes. Turning into something that goes way beyond farce. Just skip this one.

Imaginary tries to make a teddy bear scary and fails miserably.

Synopsis: A woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and unhappy about being abandoned. As her youngest stepdaughter develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey, the games become increasingly sinister.

Where to Watch: Available to rent or buy on Google Play, Apple TV, and Prime Video.

8. Dead Sea (2024) – Stranded at Sea

  • Director: Phil Volken
  • Cast: Isabel Gravitt, Dean Cameron
  • Runtime: 88 minutes
  • IMDb: 4.5/10

Why it Ranked: Ah man, is it just me or does it seem like thriller movies set at sea nowadays, more often than not, kinda suck? I love the idea of survival horror on the ocean but it never seems to work. Dead Sea is one such movie. Dead Sea has a committed performance from Isabel Gravitt who soldiers on despite a poor script, no thrills, and a boring plot. Along with being made to wear an overly revealing bikini while forced to spend half her time with a camera forced only inches away from her jiggling butt cheeks. But it isn’t enough to save this absolute chore of a movie. Literally, almost nothing to recommend.

Synopsis: A jet ski accident leaves a young woman and her friends stranded in the open sea. They are rescued by a fishing vessel captain, but their relief turns to terror when they realise the captain has horrifying intentions and a dark secret.

Where to Watch: Streaming on Hulu and Prime Video.

7. Tarot (2024) – Fate Dealt Badly

  • Director: Spenser Cohen, Anna Halberg
  • Cast: Harriet Slater, Jacob Batalon
  • Runtime: 92 minutes
  • IMDb: 4.8/10

Why it Ranked: Tarot is a movie that is almost impressive for its sheer number of horror cliches. Supernatural shenanigans, spooky tarot cards, jump scares, a group of teen friends played by actors who look way too old to be portraying teens? It’s all here and all done in the most formulaic way you could possibly imagine. Tarot takes a fair amount from the plot of movies like Final Destination but doesn’t manage to do anything new with the idea of death’s design. It is dull, derivative, and almost impossible to recommend to horror fans looking for a good teen horror flick.

A screenshot from Horror movie Tarot (2024)
Tarot recycles every teen horror trope in the book with zero originality.

Synopsis: A group of friends recklessly violate the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck. In doing so, they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards, forcing them into a race against death to escape their forecasted fates.

Where to Watch: Streaming on Netflix.

6. Bloody Axe Wound (2024) – Meta Mess

  • Director: Matthew John Lawrence
  • Cast: Sari Arambulo, Molly Brown
  • Runtime: 83 minutes
  • IMDb: N/A

Why it Ranked: Man, I hated this movie so much. It is not, objectively, the worst on the list but I think I would put it there when it comes to personal preference. This is one of those horror-comedy movies that aims to change the way we approach ideas of gender in horror. All before settling into a completely hypocritical pattern of proving the biases it complains about to be right. Confused, completely unfunny, not at all entertaining and full of horrible characters who are very poorly acted. This meta-horror movie is pretty cringe in that very specific “old person trying to appeal to Gen Z” way and not at all worth your time.

Synopsis: In a world where being a slasher villain is a legitimate family trade, Abby is set to become the first female slasher in the business. However, she struggles with the gender bias of the industry and her own morals as she realises the true cost of her family’s murderous legacy.

Where to Watch: Streaming on AMC+.

5. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 (2024) – Public Domain Pain

  • Director: Rhys Frake-Waterfield
  • Cast: Scott Chambers, Ryan Oliva
  • Runtime: 93 minutes
  • IMDb: 4.6/10

Why it Ranked: Some people like to make out like Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is better than the first movie. Some, even more demented people, like to pretend it is a good movie. It isn’t. It is just as bad as the first and still not a good film. This slasher sequel just has more deaths, more blood, and more guts.. Oh, and it has Tigger now thanks to him becoming public domain in January of 2024. Still awful but some may appreciate this public domain horror as a “So bad it’s good” option. Afterall, that’s what it is, so clearly, going for.

A screenshot from Horror movie Winnie The Pooh Blood and Honey 2 (2024)
More budget, same terrible quality: Pooh returns to ruin more childhoods.

Synopsis: Deep within the 100-Acre-Wood, a destructive rage grows as Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and Tigger find their home and their lives endangered after Christopher Robin reveals their existence. No longer willing to live in the shadows, the group decides to take the fight to the town of Ashdown.

Where to Watch: Available to rent or buy on Prime Video and Apple TV.

4. The Mouse Trap (2024) – Mickey’s Massacre

  • Director: Jamie Bailey
  • Cast: Simon Phillips, Sophie McIntosh
  • Runtime: 80 minutes
  • IMDb: 3.0/10

Why it Ranked: We have had Winnie The Pooh so why not another beloved Disney icon in horror form? Simon Phillips loves starring in crap horror. Whether it’s the recent Silent Bite, The Nights Before Christmas or Mermaid Flick What Lurks Beneath. As long as it is horror and it is bad, he is on board as either a writer, director or star. Sometimes a combination of all three. Here, he is donning a Mickey mouse mask in a public domain horror movie that is beyond terrible. It even manages to be leagues away from “so bad its good” territory. Stupid, derivative, and, above all else, boring. There is absolutely nothing to recommend, here.

Synopsis: It’s Alex’s 21st birthday, but she’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift. Her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.

Where to Watch: Streaming on Prime Video, Peacock, and free with ads on Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Pluto TV.

3. Time Cut (2024) – Totally Boring

  • Director: Hannah Macpherson
  • Cast: Madison Bailey, Antonia Gentry
  • Runtime: 90 minutes
  • IMDb: 5.0/10

Why it Ranked: Remember how enjoyable Totally Killer was? Well, Time Cut is here to show you how badly that movie could have turned out. Terrible acting, an absolute bore of a story, no suspense, a ridiculous twist plot and one of the most inaccurate depictions of a time period, in horror history, are just some of the problems here. Believe it or not, Time Cut was in production before Totally Killer but that claim to originality can’t help how bad this time travel horror film is. This is the type of movie you could imagine showing at 9pm on Nickelodeon. It is incredibly tame and ruthlessly dull. A complete waste of time.

A screenshot from Horror movie Time Cut (2024)
Time Cut attempts to mix time travel and slasher horror but forgets the thrills.

Synopsis: A teenage girl accidentally travels back in time to 2003, days before a masked killer murders her sister. She must navigate the early 2000s and stop the killer without destroying the future or revealing her identity.

Where to Watch: Streaming on Netflix.

2. Nyctophobia (2024) – Twin Disaster

  • Director: Kim Noonan
  • Cast: Bianca D’Ambrosio, Chiara D’Ambrosio
  • Runtime: 77 minutes
  • IMDb: 3.5/10

Why it Ranked: I would normally leave this kind of movie off the list. It is, obviously, a fairly low budget affair but there are a couple of reasons I am putting it on here. The reason this is here is because it actually stars twins Bianca and Chiara D’Ambrosio who are both well known actors and the movie was produced by legendary Wu Tang Clan member RZA’s production company so there is actual money behind this film. It’s absolutely terrible, though. High school student media project levels of boring and messy with a terribly improvised script, horrendous acting, tons of screaming and zero scares. The only reason this found footage horror isn’t number one is that it doesn’t fall into one of the pitfalls of the next movie.

Synopsis: Twin sisters Rose and Azalea, along with their friend, attempt to survive during a supernaturally induced blackout where the darkness is plagued by monsters. Filmed in a found footage style, they must use their phone lights to keep the creatures at bay.

Where to Watch: Streaming on Prime Video, or available to rent/buy on Google Play.

1. Spin The Bottle (2024) – The Two-Hour Slasher

  • Director: Gavin Wiesen
  • Cast: Tanner Stine, Kaylee Kaneshiro, Ali Larter
  • Runtime: 124 minutes
  • IMDb: 3.2/10

Why it Ranked: Well, there are a couple of reasons. For one, this movie has a great cast of horror legends. Ali Larter, Justin Long, Tony Amendola, Ryan Whitney. Spin The Bottle is a veritable who’s who of horror from the past 20 years. Despite the stellar cast, this movie suffers from myriad issues. Namely, terrible acting, a horrible script, an abundance of cliches, a boring plot, no scares, a ridiculous amount of silliness and copious amounts of terrible CGI. On top of that, and perhaps the film’s greatest sin prompting it to take the number one spot, here. Spin The Bottle is over two hours long. What the hell?? No slasher horror movie needs to be longer than two hours. Least of all one which features such a terrible plot. This is an absurdly long, absurdly awful, bore of a horror and, for those reasons, it is our number 1 worst horror movie of the year.

A screenshot from Horror movie Spin The Bottle (2024)
A stellar cast wasted in a bloated, boring mess of a slasher.

Synopsis: A group of friends play a game of spin the bottle in an abandoned house where a gruesome massacre took place years ago. They unknowingly unleash an evil spirit that begins to hunt them down, forcing the survivors to stick together to uncover the house’s dark secrets.

Where to Watch: Streaming on AMC+, Shudder, Philo, and The Roku Channel.
