The elaborate, over-the-top personalities of influencers makes them an excellent addition to a horror movie. If you despise the eccentric overacting of these people, you are going to love seeing them brutally murdered. If you enjoy the quirkiness of the presentation that comes along with these types of characters, these films might just scratch that itch.

I will be following this list up with 10 influencer themed horror movies that aren’t so good. Keep an eye out for that. For now, this one is focused on films that are worth checking out. Let’s take a look.

Bonus: #MissingCouple (2024) – The Van-Life Mystery

Why it Ranked: I am throwing this one in as a little bonus as it is a pretty low-budget movie that doesn’t hold up to the rest of the titles on this list. I still enjoyed it, though. Believe me, I have seen a ton of social media influencer horror movies and this one is a lot better than most. You really have to judge these DIY found-footage horror movies on a curve, but this one is actually watchable.

Synopsis: A man investigates the mysterious disappearance of two van-life influencers who traded their home on the road for a cabin in the woods, only to discover something sinister in the footage they left behind.

10. The Andy Baker Tape (2021) – The Food Vlogger

Why it Ranked: The Andy Baker Tape bears a lot of the hallmarks of the 2020 world crisis in which it was made – masks, limited locations etc. – and offers a pretty intimate, bare-bones portrait of two long lost brothers meeting for the first time. It doesn’t always work, but by influencer-themed horror standards, it’s quite unique. It mixes things up from the expected social media stuff and ventures into some mature themes. It’s a fairly enjoyable road trip movie.

Synopsis: A popular food influencer travels to meet his half-brother for the first time, documenting the journey for his channel, only for the family reunion to spiral into a psychological nightmare.

9. Followed (2018) – Desperate for Likes

Why it Ranked: This one gets points for being a few years ahead of the current influencer boom. It taps into real-life true crime obsession and viral mystery stuff like the Cecil Hotel and the death of Elisa Lam that became viral. While the protagonist might be one of the most unlikable influencers on this list, it’s a decent found-footage effort that understands the toxic lengths people will go to for clout.

Synopsis: A controversial social media influencer livestreams his stay at a notoriously cursed hotel to reach a subscriber milestone, unintentionally provoking the restless spirits that dwell within.

8. Horror In The High Desert 3: Firewatch (2024) – More Desert Dread

Why it Ranked: While this series is stretching its story a bit thin, Firewatch brings an influencer into the mix to investigate the disappearance from the first Horror in the High Desert film. It’s more of the same, and perhaps not as polished as its predecessors, but if you enjoyed the first movie, you will probably like this one too. It maintains that eerie, isolated atmosphere the series is known for.

Synopsis: A persistent social media personality ventures into the Nevada desert to solve the mystery of Gary Hinge, leading his followers into a terrifying encounter with the unknown.

7. The Deep House (2021) – Underwater Urban Exploration

Why it Ranked: A pair of urban exploration YouTubers visit a mysterious house buried at the bottom of a lake. When things head into the water, they get a hell of a lot more tense and atmospheric. There’s something inherently vulnerable about being underwater in diving gear. The Deep House taps into that nicely. Sure, it’s basically just a haunted house horror but it feels pretty unique and is quite enjoyable thanks to its original setup.

Synopsis: Seeking viral content, a couple dives into a remote lake to explore a submerged mansion, only to find themselves trapped in a house that defies the laws of nature.

6. Superhost (2021) – The Killer Host

Why it Ranked: I absolutely recommend this for one reason – Gracie Gillam as Rebecca. She is sensational as the quirky holiday home host for a pair of visiting influencers. Without her, it would be a formulaic horror movie, but Gillam’s crazy-eyed performance makes it entirely enjoyable. The influencer themes work well as a plot vehicle for the carnage.

Synopsis: Two travel vloggers with a declining subscriber count stay at a remote rental to save their channel, but their eccentric host has far more than a positive review on her mind.

Why it Ranked: Spree absolutely nails the influencer stuff, with Joe Keery delivering a performance that is both annoying and over-the-top. It’s a hell of a lot of fun, filled with chaos and a biting commentary on the attention economy.

Why it Ranked: This is a pretty fun movie that often gets overlooked; it’s free on Tubi too. It goes heavy on the comedy and is actually very enjoyable. While it’s not exactly breaking new ground and the characters aren’t all that likable, there are genuine laughs and even a few scares. It’s a decent option for anyone who enjoys seeing “eccentric” streamers get what’s coming to them.

Synopsis: Four social media influencers livestream their visit to the “Devil’s Manor,” the former home of a satanic cult, but their quest for views ends in a very real battle for survival.

3. Sissy (2022) – Lifestyle Hypocrisy

Why it Ranked: Australia knocks out some incredible horror, and Sissy is no exception. This is a splatter horror with a seriously twisted sense of humour – a really good option for anyone looking for a slasher with a modern twist.

Synopsis: Cecilia is a successful lifestyle influencer who runs into her former best friend. Invited to a bachelorette weekend, her polished online persona begins to crack as childhood trauma and current rivalries lead to a bloody weekend.

2. Influencer (2022) – Subverting Expectations

Why it Ranked: Influencer is one of those films you might not expect much from, only to be pleasantly surprised. It manages to subvert expectations in a couple of ways and ends up going in a genuinely surprising direction. Much like Superhost, it features brilliant antagonists and a legitimately interesting plot. Awesome stuff and interesting throughout.

Synopsis: While solo backpacking in Thailand, a social media influencer meets a carefree local woman who offers to show her the un-vlogged side of the island, leading to a dark and unexpected game of identity theft.

1. Deadstream (2022) – The Master of the Stream

Why it Ranked: Deadstream was quietly one of 2022’s best horror movies. Joseph Winter nails that very specific brand of obnoxiousness that we are all familiar with in influencers. It’s a good old-fashioned haunted house horror movie in the same vein as classics like The Evil Dead. It feels unique and modern while sticking to traditional scares. It’s fantastic.

Synopsis: A disgraced social media personality tries to win back his followers by livestreaming himself spending a night alone in a notorious haunted house, accidentally pissing off a vengeful spirit.
