10 Obscure 2020s Found Footage Horror Movies – Digital Dreck

Welcome to Ranking Horror. We kicked off this week looking at 10 Found Footage Films From The 2020s. Today, we are keeping up that theme with 10 Obscure 2020s Found Footage Horror Movies – Digital Dreck.

When ranking sites like ours put together lists of genre-specific films, like found footage, we know that a lot of you will have seen a decent number of the titles. It’s just the nature of the beast. We have to list movies that are actually worth watching, which means the more devoted horror fans are going to have already watched them.

With today’s list, that isn’t the case. This is a list mostly comprised of absolute obscure-as-hell found footage stinkers. If you are in the market for 2020s found footage horror movies that you probably missed, this is the list for you. Don’t shoot the messenger; I didn’t make these films, I just brought them to your attention. Let’s take a look.

RankMovie Title (Year)The “Stinker” Reason

3Terror Eyes (2021)Try-Hard Dark Web Drivel

Digital Dross: A summary of the top 5 obscure found footage movies you (likely) haven’t seen.

10. Nyctophobia (2024) – A Wu-Tang Mistake

  • Director: Kim Noonan
  • Cast: Bianca D’Ambrosio, Chiara D’Ambrosio
  • Runtime: 77 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 2.6/10

Why it Ranked: As a massive fan of the Wu-Tang Clan, it pains me to see RZA sharing executive producer credits on this mess. This movie is bad in so many ways: terribly improvised dialogue, no scares, horrendous acting, and annoying screeching from the twins. The visuals are beyond frustrating, making it one of the most painful watches in the sub-genre.

Synopsis: A pair of sisters are caught in a blackout with only the light of their phones to protect them from supernatural monsters that thrive in the shadows.

Where to Watch: Amazon (Rent/Buy), Apple TV (Rent/Buy)

9. Something Walks in the Woods (2023) – Library Chills

  • Director: William J. Howard III
  • Cast: William J. Howard III, Laura Rodriguez
  • Runtime: 81 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 3.7/10

Why it Ranked: This film hits the niche of “obscure stinker” perfectly. It features a “woods” that is actually just a wooded patch in front of a road – hardly imposing. Absolutely nothing happens; the highlight is a cut hand and a 10-minute phone conversation in a library where the biggest risk is being “shushed”. It is genuinely one of the most boring horror movies I have ever endured.

Something Walks in the Woods (2023)
Something Walks in the Woods (2023) is one of the most boring horror movies I have ever watched.

Synopsis: A man spends the night in a patch of trees to investigate a ghostly sighting, documenting his mundane camping routine until a minor injury occurs.

Where to Watch: Tubi, Amazon (Rent/Buy)

8. Curse of Aurore (2020) – Questionable Tactics

  • Director: Mehran C. Torgoley
  • Cast: Llana Barron, Lex Wilson, Jordan Kaplan
  • Runtime: 90 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 3.8/10

Why it Ranked: Curse of Aurore tries to capitalise on a real-life murder case, which leads to some questionable line-blurring. It opens with a YouTuber discussing the case, trying to lend the film a sense of “dark web” authenticity. Unfortunately, it’s an extremely dull film that never justifies its controversial hook, leaving the viewer with 90 minutes of nothingness.

Synopsis: Three filmmakers discover a thumb drive featuring troubling footage that supposedly reveals the dark fate of a group that investigated a historic murder case in rural Canada.

Where to Watch: Amazon (Rent/Buy), Vudu

7. Ghost Webcam (2023) – Bedroom Boredom

  • Director: Sebastian Dove
  • Cast: Emojay Brown, Cassandra Due
  • Runtime: 74 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 4.1/10

Why it Ranked: Ghost Webcam is a textbook example of the “no-budget screenlife” trap. It falls victim to all the usual tropes: a boring plot, poor acting, and zero scares. The house arrest scenario is clearly just a convenient way to keep the budget low by staying in one bedroom. It’s derivative and rather dull, even for the most patient screenlife fans.

Ghost Webcam (2023)
Ghost Webcam (2023) is derivative and rather dull.

Synopsis: A man on house arrest decides to video-chat with a woman from a dating site, only to witness a series of haunting events through his screen.

Where to Watch: Tubi, YouTube (Free)

6. The Death of April (2022) – Generic Rope Tricks

  • Director: Ruben Rodriguez
  • Cast: Katarina Hughes, Stephanie Domini
  • Runtime: 90 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 4.4/10

Why it Ranked: This film is the Paranormal Activity formula with none of the innovation. It feels like a filmmaker churning out content for the sake of it, using simple rope tricks to manufacture scares. It’s overly long, generic, and not in the least bit scary. However, it might scratch a very specific itch for fans who literally just want “camera in a room” horror.

Synopsis: A young woman moves into a new townhouse and begins documenting the increasingly strange and paranormal activity for her concerned family.

Where to Watch: Amazon (Rent/Buy), Apple TV (Rent/Buy)

5. Invited (2024) – Convoluted elopement

  • Director: Navin Ramaswaran
  • Cast: Mandy Magnan, Sean Irvine
  • Runtime: 71 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 4.1/10

Why it Ranked: Invited is a hair more watchable than the absolute bottom tier of this list. It’s a screenlife movie that tries very hard to shock the viewer in the final act. While it’s both predictable and convoluted, the family interactions have some weight. It’s still only for the most devoted found footage completionists, as it lacks the spark of films like Host.

Invited (2024)
Invited (2024) is another screenlife style movie that has its moments.

Synopsis: A family joins a video call to witness their daughter’s elopement, only to realise that the “celebration” is actually a front for a sinister ritual.

Where to Watch: Tubi, Amazon (Rent/Buy)

4. 13 Sherwood Avenue (2023) – Alexa is Evil

  • Director: Richard Mansfield
  • Cast: Kelly Goudie Price, Jenna-Marie
  • Runtime: 70 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 4.4/10

Why it Ranked: This is a modernised Ouija board story where smart devices are the gateway to the dead. The plot is admittedly ridiculous, but it captures that specific paranoia about our digital assistants. I swear Alexa makes me repeat myself for her own amusement! It’s borderline watchable, but don’t expect anything beyond a micro-budget British supernatural flick.

Synopsis: Captured on an AI smart security system, a man is found dead days after his household devices began seemingly contacting spirits from the other side.

Where to Watch: Tubi, Plex (Free)

3. Terror Eyes (2021) – Try-Hard Tech Horror

  • Director: Delaney Bishop
  • Cast: Lelia Symington, Michael Rossi
  • Runtime: 78 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 6.0/10

Why it Ranked: Believe it or not, this is the most “well-known” film here and some people love it. I personally didn’t enjoy it one bit. It’s poorly acted and feels extremely out of touch with the social media/dark web topics it tries to tackle. It is quite cringe-inducing in parts, feeling like it’s trying way too hard to be “en-vogue”. I’ve ranked it higher simply because it actually has an audience that seemingly likes it.

Terror Eyes (2021)
I am not a fan of Terror Eyes (2021) but some people seem to enjoy it.

Synopsis: A group of friends heading to a music festival are attacked by a pair of thugs, leading to a hunt that involves a sinister website on the dark web.

Where to Watch: Hulu, Amazon (Rent/Buy)

2. I’m Haunted (2022) – Canadian Tax Break Horror

  • Director: Brandon Rhiness
  • Cast: Elizabeth Chamberlain, Griffin Cork
  • Runtime: 76 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 4.5/10

Why it Ranked: I feel like I’m experiencing déjà vu with this one… It’s standard haunted house fare that blends into every other “vlogger” horror movie ever made. Director Brandon Rhiness churns out a ton of these and they all suck. It doesn’t offer anything new, and I think someone needs to talk to Canada about their generous tax breaks for low-budget horror “crap”. Still, it’s a notch above the others for basic competence.

Synopsis: A vlogger documents the strange and terrifying goings-on in her apartment, hoping to turn the haunting into viral content for her followers.

Where to Watch: Tubi

1. Chateau (2024) – The Best of the Dreck

  • Director: Luke Genton
  • Cast: Cathy Marks, Colton Tran
  • Runtime: 85 minutes
  • IMDb User Score: 4.0/10

Why it Ranked: I actually quite enjoyed this one despite its issues. It made me laugh, didn’t take itself too seriously, and was fairly enjoyable – certainly more so than most of the dreck on this list. Cathy Marks is likable as the lead, and there’s a fun connection to the Tubi movie Sorry, Charlie. It’s the “winner” of the list by a long shot.

Chateau (2024)
I actually found Chateau (2024) to be quite enjoyable.

Synopsis: An influencer in need of money is hired to clean a supposedly haunted chateau in France. She secretly films the experience for content, unaware of the actual history hidden within the walls.

Where to Watch: Tubi, Amazon (Rent/Buy)

Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You

There we have it – 10 films that prove the found footage well has some very murky depths. While Chateau might offer a few laughs, most of these entries are strictly for the “completists” who need to see every frame of digital dread ever recorded.

Hopefully, this list helps you cross a few titles off your watchlist… Or serves as a warning of what to avoid on your next Tubi binge. I’ll be back soon with more lists of films that might actually be worth your time. Stay spooky.
