15. You’re Killing Me (2023)
- Director: Beth Hanna, Jerren Lauder
- Cast: McKaley Miller, Dermot Mulroney
- IMDb: 4.9/10
Why it Ranked: Look, it’s not a great movie, I’ll admit that. But You’re Killing Me’s “eat the rich” narrative feels pretty fresh and very cathartic. It’s more of an action thriller that puts our lead in an impossible situation rather than a horror. Still, it is pretty tense, decently fast-paced, and features a likeable lead who refuses to be intimidated by wealth or power. It’s also entirely more “teen horror” leaning that most of the titles on this list so just a tad lighter and easier to watch.
Our Femme Fatale: Eden Murphy is a bright student who attends a party of elites hoping for a letter of recommendation but instead discovers evidence of a cover-up. In response, she transforms into a tactical defender who uses her surroundings to outsmart her snobby classmates. It’s hard not to smirk a little as the smarmy buggers get their comeuppance. McKaley Miller really settles into the roll of bad ass woman pretty quickly, too.
Synopsis: A student at a party of wealthy teenagers finds herself in a fight for her life after uncovering a secret that the hosts will do anything to keep hidden.
Where to Watch: Amazon Prime (Rent/Buy)
14. Even Lambs Have Teeth (2015)
- Director: Terry Miles
- Cast: Kirsten Prout, Tiera Skovbye
- IMDb: 5.1/10
Why it Ranked: This is a seriously brutal example of the rape-revenge horror subgenre that’s always been rather controversial. You can trace this film’s DNA back to eyebrow raising classics like I Spit on Your Grave, the big difference being that Even Lambs Have Teeth feels distinctly more modern. It focuses on the unbreakable bond between two friends caught up in an utterly horrifying situation. It is a bit lower on the list due to the low-budget feel, but the sheer inventiveness of their vengeance is incredibly memorable.
Our Femme Fatale: Sloane and Katie are two young women who, after being kidnapped and tormented by local thugs, transform into brutal and hyper calculated executioners. They use everything from power tools to creative traps to dismantle their attackers. Seriously, the bathtub kill is horror deviousness turned up to 11. Pure cruelty in the best way possible.
Synopsis: Two young women are kidnapped by a group of small-town psychopaths and must find a way to escape and exact a bloody revenge.
Where to Watch: Tubi, Amazon Prime (Rent/Buy)

13. Hunted (2020)
- Director: Vincent Paronnaud
- Cast: Lucie Debay, Arieh Worthalter
- IMDb: 5.8/10
Why it Ranked: I really enjoyed this one, once it got going. Hunted is a modern, surrealist reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood and that folk tale’s finger prints are all over it. Sometimes even visually. It starts as an abduction story but shifts into a full blown, primitive survival thriller where the woods become a weapon as Eve does everything she can to turn the tables on her attackers.
Our Femme Fatale: Eve is a woman who is lured into a trap by a charismatic sociopath (a horror tale as old as time). Once she hits the forest, her primal instincts take over and she turns into an animalistic predator. The final scenes are full of guttural screaming and a desire to survive that is genuinely impossible not to root for.
Synopsis: What starts as a flirtatious encounter in a bar turns into a terrifying chase through the wilderness as a woman fights to survive a decidedly human predator.

12. The Furies (2019)
- Director: Tony D’Aquino
- Cast: Airlie Dodds, Linda Ngo
- IMDb: 5.4/10
Why it Ranked: I love Australian horror and The Furies is another example of how good they are at making seriously visceral gorefests. This is a slasher that pays homage to the 80s golden era of the genre while adding a clever technical twist. The practical effects are top-notch and the “game” scenario keeps the stakes high, throughout.
Our Femme Fatale: Kayla is a woman with epilepsy who finds herself in a deadly game where masked men hunt women in the bush. She manages to find a way to use the rules of the game against the hunters: proving herself to be far more than just another victim.
Synopsis: A group of women are kidnapped and forced to participate in a deadly game of cat and mouse in the Australian wilderness.

11. Kristy (2014)
- Director: Olly Blackburn
- Cast: Haley Bennett, Ashley Greene
- IMDb: 5.9/10
Why it Ranked: Full disclosure, I didn’t enjoy Kristy nearly as much as a lot of people did but it is seriously unique thanks to its setting. It’s a “home invasion” style film that takes place on a deserted college campus. It is a great example of a protagonist using their environment to fight back, though, and Justine becomes a seriously capable survivalist in a very short space of time.
Our Femme Fatale: Justine is a student staying on campus alone during Thanksgiving. When she is targeted by a cyber-cult of killers, she transitions from a terrified girl into a warrior who uses the university’s resources to eliminate her hunters one by one.
Synopsis: A college student staying on campus over the holidays is targeted by a violent cult and must fight to survive the night.

10. Storm Warning (2007)
- Director: Jamie Blanks
- Cast: Nadia Farès, Robert Taylor
- IMDb: 5.8/10
Why it Ranked: We are back to Australia for another survival horror. Storm Warning is actually quite famous for its “MacGyver” style traps. It is a slow burn that takes awhile to get going. There’s a lot of sneaking around and talking before the fighting back starts but it culminates in some of the most satisfying and gruesome payoff moments in the genre.
Our Femme Fatale: Pia is a woman stranded in the marshes with her husband. When they are taken captive by a family of deranged bogans, Pia uses her knowledge of physics and tools to create lethal traps from household items. Pia puts a big spin on the usual survival formula.
Synopsis: A couple becomes lost in a storm and seeks shelter at an isolated farmhouse, only to be held captive by a terrifying family of outcasts.

9. They Will Kill You (2026)
- Director: Kirill Sokolov
- Cast: Zazie Beetz, Patricia Arquette
- IMDb: 6.3/10
Why it Ranked: This was probably one of the most anticipated horror films of 2026 and actually serves as the inspiration for this list of horror women whupping ass. They Will Kill You brings a dark, satirical edge to the high-rise horror trope. Think grindhouse cinema but with a bad-ass woman absolutely carving up a collection of respawning enemies. It is a fantastic showcase for Zazie Beetz as a woman caught in a utterly twisted situation.
Our Femme Fatale: Asia Reaves – a woman who answers a help-wanted ad for a mysterious apartment complex. She quickly realises she is part of a dark ritual and must use her wits and grit to fight through floors of madness. You’ll be cheering out loud the second she whips out a sword and starts removing body parts.
Synopsis: A woman takes a job as a housekeeper in a mysterious high-rise, only to discover a community that harbours a deadly and ancient secret.

8. Sissy (2022)
- Director: Hannah Barlow, Kane Senes
- Cast: Aisha Dee, Barlow
- IMDb: 6.1/10
Why it Ranked: We are back to Australia yet again for the next entry. Sissy is seriously underrated and takes the themed of women whupping ass in a whole different direction. It’s a brilliant horror-comedy about the toxicity of social media and childhood trauma. It is colourful, weird, and features an ending that is both horrific and strangely triumphant.
Our Femme Fatale: Cecilia (Sissy) is a wellness influencer who is invited to the hen do of her former best friend. After being tormented by her childhood bully, her carefully curated exterior shatters, leading to a series of “accidents” that she manages with terrifying calm.
Synopsis: A self-help influencer reunites with a childhood friend for a weekend getaway, but the presence of an old enemy triggers a violent psychological breakdown.

7. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026)
- Director: Adam Robitel
- Cast: Samara Weaving
- IMDb: 6.5/10
Why it Ranked: Grace returns in this highly anticipated sequel that actually manages to live up to the original in a lot of ways. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have recaptured the dark humour and frantic energy of the original while adding a few new twists and turns. The kills are awesome, there’s a decent number of laughs, and the addition of Kathryn Newton brings a new lease of life to the formula. Samara Weaving has really solidified her status as a horror icon with this franchise.
Our Femme Fatale: Grace is no longer the confused bride from the first film. Having survived the Le Domas massacre, she is now a seasoned survivor who understands the rules of the supernatural games she is forced to play and is more than capable of turning the tables on her attackers.
Synopsis: After the explosive events of her wedding night, Grace finds herself targeted once again by a new branch of the family seeking to settle an ancient debt.
Where to Watch: Prime VOD
6. The Hunt (2020)
- Director: Craig Zobel
- Cast: Betty Gilpin, Hilary Swank
- IMDb: 6.5/10
Why it Ranked: Bizarrely, this film caused a huge stir for its political satire as the plot pits wealthy liberals against working class people in a violent hunt. To be honest, at its heart, it is simply an incredible action-horror movie that’s a ton of fun. Betty Gilpin gives one of the coolest performances in modern cinema.
Our Femme Fatale: Crystal Creasey is a veteran who finds herself being hunted by wealthy elites. Little do the bad guys realise, she is their worst nightmare just waiting to happen. She is more trained, more lethal, and more cynical than anyone else on the field.
Synopsis: Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing, not knowing where they are or how they got there, only to discover they have been chosen for a very specific purpose: the hunt.
Where to Watch: Amazon Prime (Rent/Buy)

5. Hush (2016)
- Director: Mike Flanagan
- Cast: Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr.
- IMDb: 6.6/10
Why it Ranked: Hush absolutely blew people away back in 2016 and it stands as one of teh better modern survival horror films. Mike Flanagan is a master of tension, and he has crafted an incredibly tight and highly strung horror movie. It strips the genre down to its bare essentials: two people, one house, and no escape.
Our Femme Fatale: Maddie Young is a deaf-mute writer living in an isolated house. When a masked killer appears at her window, Maddie must use her sensory intelligence and tactical mind to survive a predator who thinks he has the upper hand.
Synopsis: A deaf writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears at her window.
Where to Watch: Shudder
4. Revenge (2017)
- Director: Coralie Fargeat
- Cast: Matilda Lutz
- IMDb: 6.4/10
Why it Ranked: This movie’s probably getting a bit of renewed interest thanks to Coralie Fargeat’s latest movie The Substance but it is more than deserving of it. Revenge is a hyper-violent, neon-soaked masterpiece of the revenge genre. It subverts the male gaze and delivers some of the most visceral and, let’s be honest, enjoyable blood-drenched sequences in modern horror.
Our Femme Fatale: Jen is left for dead in the desert after being assaulted by her boyfriend and his friends. She undergoes something of a symbolic rebirth, transforming from a socialite into a desert-dwelling predator who hunts the men responsible with cold, brutal, and calculated fury.
Synopsis: A young woman left for dead in the desert by her wealthy boyfriend and his friends survives against all odds and seeks a bloody retribution.
Where to Watch: Shudder, AMC+

3. Dream Home (2010)
- Director: Pang Ho-cheung
- Cast: Josie Ho
- IMDb: 6.6/10
Why it Ranked: I absolutely love Dream Home and Cheng Lai-sheung is one of the most capable anti-heroes in horror history. Do not, and I repeat do not, go into this movie if you have a weak stomach. It is utterly brutal. This Hong Kong slasher acts as a scathing critique of the housing market but is also incredibly violent and highly stylised.
Our Femme Fatale: Cheng Lai-sheung is a hard-working woman who has spent her life saving for a luxury flat. When the price is raised at the last minute, she snaps big time: deciding that the only way to lower the value is to turn the building into a crime scene.
Synopsis: A young woman becomes a serial killer to lower the property value of a luxury apartment building so she can finally afford her dream home.
Where to Watch: Tubi
2. The Nightingale (2018)
- Director: Jennifer Kent
- Cast: Aisling Franciosi, Baykali Ganambarr
- IMDb: 7.3/10
Why it Ranked: Yep, we are in Australia yet again. The Nightingale comes from the director of The Babadook, Jennifer Kent. This is a harrowing, historical revenge film that feels much different to most of the other films on this list. It is actually difficult to watch because it can be so disturbing but it’s also profoundly powerful, focusing on the intersection of trauma and the colonial history of Australia.
Our Femme Fatale: Clare is a young Irish convict who loses everything at the hands of a British officer. She sets out into the Tasmanian wilderness to track him down, accompanied by an Aboriginal tracker who has his own reasons for vengeance.
Synopsis: Set in 1825, a young Irish convict woman chases a British officer through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family.
Where to Watch: Tubi, Amazon Prime (Rent/Buy)

1. You’re Next (2011)
- Director: Adam Wingard
- Cast: Sharni Vinson
- IMDb: 6.6/10
Why it Ranked: I still think that You’re Next is massively underrated and I will talk about it any chance that I get. In a lot of ways, it’s the ultimate “Final Girl” movie. It takes every trope of the home invasion subgenre and flips it on its head. It is funny, brutal, and features, perhaps, the most competent horror protagonist in history. Many of the more recent films on this list owe a lot to this title and it’s my personal favourite.
Our Femme Fatale: Erin is a woman visiting her boyfriend’s family when they are attacked by masked assassins. Unbeknownst to the killers, Erin was raised on a survivalist compound: she immediately takes command of the house and begins picking the invaders apart one by one.
Synopsis: The Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, but they are fortunate enough to have a guest with a very particular set of survival skills.
Where to Watch: Tubi, Amazon Prime (Rent/Buy)
Don’t Underestimate Them
That’s fifteen films that prove that the horror genre is at its best when the power dynamics shift completely. We are all a bit sick of damsels in distress, right? It’s much better when the hunter becomes the hunted and these women do it in the best way possible.
Whether they are fighting for justice, survival, or pure vengeance, these lethal ladies have earned their place in the horror hall of fame. Stay spooky, keep fighting back, and never go into the woods without a plan.
