Richie Ranks is the creator, writer, editor, coder, guy who makes the coffee, of Ranking Horror and the founder of the established horror review destination Knockout Horror.
With years of experience critiquing genre cinema, Richie has built a loyal following of over 70,000 monthly readers who trust his honest, occasionally brutal, and always no-nonsense approach to film criticism.
Specialising in sub-genre deep dives, from obscure 80s slashers to modern found footage, Richie’s work focuses on helping horror fans cut through the noise to find their next favourite scare.
When he isn’t ranking the goriest deaths in cinema history or deconstructing confusing movie endings, he is likely arguing that Black Christmas (1974) is the greatest Christmas horror movie ever made.

So what do we do at Ranking Horror?
We simply rank horror movies in list format and nothing else. No reviews, no news, and no bull; just list after list of horror movie goodness all ranked for your enjoyment.
In each and every list we will try to bring you horror movie suggestions that you may never have heard of before.
Whether it is low key indie efforts, older movies that flew under the radar, or some of the amazing underappreciated horror from other parts of the world.
Every list is a chance to expand your catalogue.
Our Aim at Ranking Horror
Everyone loves list sites, right? Well, after spending the past five years working on a horror movie review site. I decided my opinion would better be suited to list format articles. Hence why I created Ranking Horror. We aim to share with you horror movie ranking lists on a whole range of different subjects. The weirder the better. And we also aim to introduce you to horror movies you never knew existed by some of the horror world’s lesser known talents. Every list will contain bite sized summaries of the movies we are ranking. Just enough to get you interested without spoiling the plot.

Do you share links to movies?
Nope! I really don’t want this website to to turn into some link spamming directory of movie streaming sites. Not to mention streaming services change all the time so keeping track is tough. I will share a directory of great places to watch horror movies so keep an eye out for that.
Have you watched all of the movies you rank?
Absolutely. As I mentioned earlier, we only watch horror and we watch something practically every night of the week. Our knowledge is extensive and we will only rank horror movies that we have watched ourselves. That’s a rule.
Do you copy other people’s lists and opinions?
Absolutely not! If a list is similar to another website’s list, that is pure coincidence. There are only so many horror movies out there so some lists on certain linear subjects may have a passing resemblance to other people’s lists. Nothing is ever copied, however, and I will always try to search outside of the box wherever possible. Even if that means stretching the boundaries of the subject matter we are discussing.
Do you use AI generated lists?
Definitely not. At Ranking Horror, we will never use AI for any kind of article. The only time you will see AI in use on this site is for graphics and images as the only thing more horrifying than the movies we rank is my ability (or lack thereof) to draw. Ranking Horror is entirely human written unlike the vast majority of list sites currently on the internet. When we write a list, we sit down, discuss the subject, come up with the suggestions from scratch and rank the lists as we go with the reader in mind. These lists are from us to you.

Definitely! If you have a suggestion for a list subject then send it our way. We would love to hear about it and we will credit you in the list. If you want to hear our opinion, just let us know.
Is Ranking Horror family friendly?
Without question. There will be no cussing or swearing, no nudity, no adult material and I will even attempt to keep screenshots as safe for work as possible. Although horror, itself, isn’t always family friendly. You can rest assured that this website is. Some of our lists will even be focused purely on family friendly horror movies.
